Bob Parr kdysi býval jedním z největších světových supehrdinů - pod pseudonymem Pan Úžasňák každý den zachraňoval životy a sváděl boje se zlými padouchy. Nyní však pracuje jako likvidátor škod v pojišťovně a jediné souboje, které svádí, jsou s časem a vzrůstající nadváhou. Když jej (spolu se všemi ostatními legendárními bojovníky proti zločinu) před patnácti lety donutil sled nešťastných omylů a pošetilých soudních sporů pověsit superoblek na hřebík, přijal i se svou ženou Helen (Paní Úžasňáková) občanskou totožnost a nyní se snaží se svými třemi dětmi žít normálním životem. Bob má ale neochvějné nutkání vrátit se do akce, k čemuž dostane příležitost v okamžiku, kdy jej tajemná zpráva povolá ke splnění přísně tajného úkolu na vzdáleném ostrově. Když Bob zjistí, že za celým tajemstvím stojí génius zločinu a jeho ďábelská pomsta, vydává se zbytek rodiny Úžasňákových na záchrannou akci, která je příslibem nevídaných soubojů důvtipu a superschopností.
